(Inaudible) So with all of this, would you change anything in the world? Or would you merely see it for what it is, it gives each of us a chance to wake up. Once we wake up, we quit reacting to it, we respond Respond to it, somebody comes up and calls you a dirty blankety blank so and so, huh? Do you have to defend yourself? Or is it he’s a degree man and I say yep, I’ve been at it for years. I’ve prided myself on being the highest grade so and so around. And about that time, they’ve crawled out of the room, very violently. But, do you have to go ahead and defend yourself and see that you are respected and treated appropriately at all times Bill? Nothing to bother about if comes up and says ‘ you’re a thief’ you say you’ve done quite well at it, your thinking of starting a theieving school, so you can teach others, you know? (Laughs) nobody will argue with you then, they drop you right there (laughs he says something about troubled waters) what do you have to all the contentions and struggles we have is to defend ourselves, defend our idea about ourselves, and our dignity whatever that may mean, huh? Can’t you just respond when somebody says you’re blah blah blah blah blah? You say yeah (inaudible) frequently, I’m called the devil, and I say yes, it’s been very profitable, i’ve enjoyed it immensely. And look at all the fun I have with it. So when we do these, what do you have to defend yourself with? Huh? You have nothing to defend nothing to prove about yourself, what happens. Do you have anything that has to be changed, altered or corrected? Or can you just respond where you are?

Borego part 2
Now, If we should begin to perceive this whole world, which all that thing is, is a condensation of everyday world. So if we see all of this going on, we recognize that there is an intelligence somewhere that organizes society. A group of people, that is a great initiation. And if you can see that one day, you would not want to change one thing. And if we don’t want to change anything, what state is your mind in?
Bill? (Peaceful) and as long as you see all these social evils, that’s got to be corrected like (inaudible) it’s concentrated there, you’re in a big crowd. And you gonna correct all those social evils out there, what are you got to do? You gotta change lots of things what state are you in, sir? You’re judging and you’re shocked, and you’re in a state of anger, and guilt and fear, and insecurity, and you’re agitated, and you’re concerned, right? Have you ever tried to change some great social problem? You know stop wars, and poverty, end all prejudice, all these things have you ever tried to do that? (Audience says something like save progress and gets laughs) to a small degree, and while you were doing it, you were very carried away, is that right? But if you could see it, that is the only opportunity we have for really recognizing truth, knowing what’s going on? And if you stop that we all remain little blobs of infants with barely grown bodies. No possible chance to ever get out of it. Without having this great third degree of initiation going on everywhere. And if you look down and you see something and it’s all so important, somebody’s hurt, somebody’s uncomfortable it’s the initiation going on. Third degree. And if you understand it and see it, what do you do, Gary? You do just like the guy sitting there looking through the one-way glass, listening to all this commotion going on, and now you’re laughing up a storm, right? Because it’s clowns, huh? The only thing is they don’t have on clown suits. But it is really is a clown performance there. And when we see all these, we begin to see that I don’t want to change anything, because I couldn’t improve on it. They wouldn’t have all these games going on, with all the commotion, we’d have to invent some more. And they’d probably be just as noisy as these are, huh? So whatever we invent, it seems that life uses that as One thing of getting us into contention, you have an opportunity to wake up, huh? We have seen The thing out here and I don’t want to change anything. I’m free to respond to whatever comes along. But I wouldn’t want to change the fact that there’s a little thieving going on tonight, because those theivings you know, there’s a thieving going on in that room. And there’s also a bunch of other things that goes on in there. So why is there just thriving. Now wouldn’t we worry about the fraud because there’s a guy in there trying to sell somebody something, that doesn’t look like you ought to be using that particular place to sell it, of course according to whether that we’re going to judge it according to our old method of this is pleasurable, this is attention and approval, and everybody’s behaving as they ought to be you know. So when we can change our perception, when we see, that all of this is a very great plan, that is designed, that is absolutely intelligent behavior for all the people. You know, half the people making all the commotion in all the world are members of the degree team. They are unconscious of it, but they have been cast in that role. Now most of us are degree members to somebody else, and they are to us, you know, uh, The people that most tear me up, they’re the degree team.
Borego partial around 1971 excerpt part 1
Now let’s see if we can see the world we live in, possibly with a different light on it. Maybe we can change our perception of the world. We said all of our lives, everything we have observed, we judged it as to whether it gave me pleasure, gave me attention, gave me approval, or gave me a sense of importance or on the other side of the coin. So everything we look at we judge it immediately.
Now, if we could see that the world is one great initiation building. You know something about initiations, some of the great teaching centers of the world have used initiations. And Man has considered to have something when he has passed the initiation. Now in the initiation, there is 3 degrees to it. The first degree is you’re welcome. You know, like all of us were born into this world somebody sent like congratulations cards, and all this good stuff. Didn’t you Jean?Or did you not let anyone know where you were. But everyone wants to come see the new baby and all this, you’re really welcomed into the world.
And then for several years, you are taught all the customs, and the ideology of the people. The second degree of the initiation is to be taught all the traditions and the ideas of this particular teaching organization, whatever it may be. Now this is all very nice, you sit it in a nice room that looked like this, it’s air conditioned with soft chairs, much better than we have here, and you’re given all these beautiful things, and you take these vows you know, to always uphold them you know, and never release them to anyone else and so forth and all this good stuff. And then they tell you now we have to change the setting A little bit for the next degree and if all you people will go in this little room while we change the setting.
So you get in the little room and the room has had water poured on the floor, and the heaters been running in there, and it’s pretty steamy, but you’re only gonna be there a minute why they change the setting you know that’s all right. And unknowing to the candidates, about half of the members in there are part of the degree team. You know just about half of them. And they start all sorts of little things going on. You know, maybe you take it as one branch topside, I don’t ever have any.. (inaudible) and so forth you know, and inside somebody starts this noise you know. And pretty soon you’re carried away in the (inaudible) and you’re taking one side or the other, and make an all manner of noise, and somebody commits some kind of vile language, and this has been said out here….or maybe they even find fault with the organization thats putting on this beautiful initiation. And then somebody comes and says we’re sorry there’s a little delay. And this goes on. And then everybody’s getting tired you know you’re standing in there like this, you’re hot you’re uncomfortable, and crowded, and then somebody begins to criticize that. And then one of the officials who is late to arrive and he is dog drunk, and he comes in, (inaudible)… uses foul language and pretty soon you’re involved in every conceivable kind of contention and fight that you could ever see. You know, cause everything everything went haywire at this particular day while you were there. But if you should ever catch on while you were in there, that all of this is a big show for you to respond objectively and see what’s going on instead of judge it with your usual approach of this is pleasurable, this is giving me attention. This is giving me approval, The first few degrees, you got all those you know? So in this one, you would see it then unbeknownst to you, one wall of this thing is glass and it’s a one-way mirror. People sittin’out there can see what’s going on, and they have speakers going out so that they can hear it. And if you should catch on, they obviously see it. And some guy comes and calls you out very roughly, and you probably think you’re going to be strung up by your toes, you know because things are getting rough in this place. There’s even been a murder in there. I saw a guy get a whole shot right through him. I stuck my finger in the hole (that’s while they served me dinner). But, uh nevertheless, you know you took on all manner of violence (inaudible) just a little while before you said that you would always uphold the law of the land that you live in. And here now you’re taking a vow never to let this out because it will reflect on the organization. You know, you cross yourself all over the place. So when all of this terrible things are happening, you get called out, then you’re welcomed with all glory, that you understood and saw this was a big joke going on in there. And now you’re about to get to sit in one of the air-conditioned chairs and watch the rest of them in there. And you know it’s hilarious fun. It’s like waking up from a nightmare.

Daytona 93 excerpt
( Question from audience) “Bob, what’s your view on goals? Having goals?”
I don’t plan to set any goals. (Audience: You don’t?”)
No, they’re all off in the future and I don’t think the future has been born yet do you?
Okay? I don’t set any goals. I just get up and take care of the day all right. I get along.
(Audience: So that’s the same as expectations then would you say?)
Right, same, that’s a fact only goals you set that ‘I’m gonna do it!’ And when you don’t do it, you feel bad.
Right? You made it important to achieve that goal. (Audience says something I couldn’t hear I think she said I feel inferior)
When you made it important you feel anxious immediately, okay? (Audience says something again I didn’t hear- ‘I didn’t please myself’ I think she said) Huh? ( I didn’t please myself) what did you make important last night? Huh? (what did I make important?) Yeah (Marsha‘s birthday party) well, good, that’s really something to make important (laughs) Marsha is getting to be about the age to forget those birthdays , aren’t you Marsha? (absolutely) so if you wanna keep yourself awake all night, we’ll have fun.
But it’s not important.

Statements
The only thing anyone can do is make statements whether written or spoken this includes the Not I’s It entirely my responsibility as to how I handle these statements from within, and without I can see that it has no value to my purpose or I can see that it has value to my purpose. I do not have to defend self from any statement. I do not have to analyze it. I do not have to interpret it. I do not have to reject it. I do not have to accept it. The end result is that I have accepted certain statements as true or valid to me and this is what I live by. This is my truth. I do not have to sell it to anyone else. I do not have to convert anyone else above all. I know that it has absolutely nothing to do with what is ultimately true if there is such a thing as ultimate truth, for instance, I have heard the statement that most people are stupid bastards, and I have heard the statement that all humans are Christ incarnate. Thus everyone is Christ playing a role to see if I can recognize him in that role. I have no way of determining the validity of either statement, however at various times in life, I have lived as though each statement were true, for a given length of time have accepted it as being true and have lived by it. I much prefer the latter. The real personality is the frame of reference made up of consciously chosen statements from within, and without that have been consciously accepted as being true, and have been lived by the false personality of which there are at least two or three is the unconsciously chosen frame of reference that was accepted as true because the statement was made by one accepted as an authority or because it appealed to one or more of the four dual basic urges being two or more. They are in conflict, so the statements that were accepted as true are not lived by they are only defended. Security is to be free of the missionary impulses, no need whatsoever to convince our secure agreement from another as to the validity of the statements to have accepted as being true and lived by. Our true insecurity is represented by the missionary impulse to gain converts to what I have accepted as being true. The missionary impulse is to gain agreements as to the statements I have accepted as being true, but I require agreements to gratify self and relieve the self of insecurity. The greater the insecurity, the greater the missionary drive, the only true psychological spiritual security is when I do not have to find out to get agreements or to defend any statement that I have accepted as being true and have lived by nor do I have to prove that any statements that I do not choose to live by as wrong, untrue, illusionary, etc., etc. etc.
The above our statements. There is nothing to prove or defend.

Pity verses love
To the average conditioned mind, pity equals being loved. Therefore, we cling to all of the unpleasant things and frequently rehash them so that we can enjoy the self pity and thus feel loved, as when we were a child cuddled by a mother when hurt. Self pity is emotional masturbation. I have to resent in order to feel sorry for myself, which is SENTIMENTALITY. Sentimentality means a ‘sickly’ mentality. Most people equate sentimentality with love.
From Notes
Agape can best be described as: I see that whatever you are doing, at the moment of doing, you feel is either right, proper, or justified, or you wouldn’t be able to do it.

Agape
Agape: understanding that anything I or another ever did is doing or will do is felt at the time of doing to be right or proper or justified with the light that person has at that time

Teaching ideas
13. We can live with no emergencies, which is true living. In conditioned living there is an unending series of emergencies.

15. If you want those around you to like you, you have to like yourself.
16. Agape: able to see from another’s viewpoint.
17. Everything that happens to us is a gift so that we might evolve.

Epistle
Whenever or however, I make anything important I am anxious
Being anxious, I am either angry, guilty, fearful, or feeling insecure. This is to be a state of conflict, struggle, and resistance or stress.
Being anxious is to be struggling toward an ideal what ought to have been what ought to be now
The struggle toward an ideal or illusion is the disintegrating factor, that which tears one up into many
All that the not I’s do is to make things, events, what ifs, if only, had of, etc. important
To see this to experience making things important is to be really free
Do not erase this from awareness for eternity plus one day

From Phoenix June 1971 excerpt on talk about opposites
Opposites
There are two types of adjectives that we generally use…only we only use one of them much- The judging adjective.
Are all ideas of opposites illusions?
You can describe things.. until you feel them
The mind that we have is a mind that thinks in opposites, the lower mind is the one you react with
This is why the initiation goes on it is to point out to us that there is no danger, whatever, we are fighting with opposites.
Now the first thing we do in being born after we get out of that lovely little spot where nothing is to start feeling in opposites.
So long as we think, in opposites, there is no chance of living.
Now, if you live by your nature, which is the picture of man without all the little decisions in there as motivators, there is a sensing and an interpreting.
As long as you think in opposites, you are in a state of conflict and the struggle towards the ideal, which is the disintegrating factor
But we are dead the moment that we make up an ideal and set it up, we have died to living.
