Assignments

14. When you are aware of a symptom, take the following steps:

A. Recognize that it is an adaptation by spirit to keep you in balance, therefore to be accepted with gratitude.

B. Be free to experience the symptom as long as it may be necessary--(not to just get rid of it).

C. Since the symptom is a service to you, cooperate with Spirit by consciously attempting to double the sensation.

15. Count how many times you compare yourself to other people or your conditions with the conditions of others.

16. Count how many times you think--or say--"Ought to, should, have to, need to, got to" and replace it with COULD and WANT TO.

Assignments

10. See how many things or people you have two or more feelings about.

11. When you find yourself re-acting to a situation, emotionally resisting what is going on, take the following three steps-- and be sure to take the first one.

A.  "I am free to experience  what is happening. Since I am going to experience it anyway, I will choose  to experience it freely."

B. "I am also free to feel the way I am feeling about it. To be sure that I am free to feel this, I will double the feeling consciously, on purpose, just because I want to".

C. "I am now free to choose (change) my response to anyone I desire, so I will choose a response which is truly to my advantage."

12. When you find yourself disturbed about what has happened, is happening, or is going to happen, recognize that you are listening to the Suggestor who gets his nourishment from human misery and his excitement out of being a sneak--controlling people without getting caught. Be very polite and firm, without arguing or resisting him, by saying "Good evening Mr. Lucifer, now you go back to hell where you belong. Go on now!" (Remember he is likely to be right back for a few times until he gets a little discouraged for the time being.)

13. Since we want to be full of grace, and grace is "undeserved good", see how many people you can give "underserved good" to in the next 24 hours.

Assignments

1. Watch without judging your acting out decision #           . Then act it out consciously, at least once.

2. Watch your body movements while about various actions of everyday living. Be aware that you determine the "what" and "X" determines the "how".

3. Watch others, without judging, act out the basic decisions.

4. Read the daily paper and apply agape to each story that you feel a reaction about.

5. Observe today the situations you react to. Do it freely today. Next day just observe these situations and don't react. See what happens.

6. Drop the image of husband or wife in the trash and replace by seeing the person, without the image of man or woman. Same for children.

7. Observe the conditioned responses, and conditioned wants with out identifying them with self.

8. Observe as much as possible through the next 24 hours. "What does this remind me of?" (Talk of thinking by association and living by decisions -- Danger of deciding not to think about something).

9. Watch how much we identify with others, images we make of self and others.

From Gibson notes

VIRTUE

If I must not do something because it is wrong --- and I don't do it because I think it is wrong --- I have no virtue.

When I know that I am free to, yet I realize that it is not to my advantage, I have virtue.

All beliefs are based on the idea that you are not free to ----.

False beliefs take away awareness.

From Notes (excerpt)

Before you can be in charge of anything, you must be FREE TO.......If I am trying to be free from something, I am trying to alter my nature. I am free to have any experience which is presented to me to experience. If I try to be free from anything, I am trying to change myself.

Some beliefs that might not be true

"I" BELIEVE THAT I KNOW WHAT OUGHT TO BE.

"I" BELIEVE THAT I KNOW THE FUTURE.

"I" KNOW WHAT WOULD BE THE OUTCOME IF THINGS, PEOPLE, AND SITUATIONS WERE LIKE "I" KNOW ALL SHOULD BE, NOW!

"I" BELIEVE THERE IS A LAW OF CAUSE-EFFECT.

"I" BELIEVE THERE IS A LAW OF CAUSE AND EVERY CAUSE HAS AN EFFECT.

"I" BELIEVE "I" KNOW WHAT IS CAUSE AND WHAT IS EFFECT.

"I" BELIEVE "I" KNOW WHAT IS GOOD AND WHAT IS BAD.

"I" BELIEVE "I" KNOW WHAT IS RIGHT AND WHAT IS WRONG.

"I" BELIEVE THAT OTHERS ALL KNOW WHAT IS GOOD AND WHAT IS BAD; WHAT IS RIGHT AND WHAT IS WRONG, BUT THAT BEING PERVERSE, OTHERS GO RIGHT ON AND DO WHAT IS BAD AND WHAT IS WRONG.

"I" BELIEVE "I" KNOW WHAT "I" NEED IN ORDER TO BE "HAPPY".

"I" BELIVE "I" KNOW WHAT IS TRUE AND WHAT IS FALSE IN THE FIELD OF LIVING THAT RELATES TO ME.

"I"BELIEVE "I" KNOW HOW TO GET WHAT "I" NEED TO BE "HAPPY".

Teaching idea #297

This world is our initiation. If we could see this, we would not want to change anything. It is our opportunity to see the truth and wake up.

Teaching idea #297

We have to be conscious to be in charge of our life.

Excerpt from Gibson notes

When one refuses to take dominion, one becomes a "victim" of the environment. Man is given dominion because he has the possibility of faith, of making up the mind.

Teaching ideas

#55. If we discard all ideals we will not make any judgements.

#56. Peace: We have ceased to make anything important.

#57. Our circumstances are in balance to our inner state because because spirit acts on our inner state.

What's going on here excerpts

Some people are called successful by the fact of what they have learned to know, some by the fact of what they do, and some few by what they are.

Freedom and responsibility: the two sides of the the same idea that results in a driving force and inner peace at the same time.

The greatest treasure a person can find is Wisdom and understanding. Don't look for wisdom and understanding under a rock at the bottom of the sea. Look to see what really motivates yourself and others.

Only the power of inner strength allows a person to be gentle.

Information is one thing. Knowledge is something altogether different.

Teaching idea #219

Without agape we are dead. Agape allows us to pass from death to life.

Headlines page 29

"Being" is a great gift, but unless it is the subject of self-knowing, "being' is all to often a curse of endless mental conflict, struggle and resistance. The anguish of this curse is relieved only temporarily by a sensory distraction.

Those who are strong are not infants with grown up bodies having some technical education.

Teaching idea #98

There are no bad human beings, only conditioned mechanical, unconscious ones.

Teaching ideas

221. Everything we do is for the host.

230. We are peaceful when we don't know what ought to be.

Excerpts from Teachings ideas, Headlines

Teaching ideas:

213. X renders "Not'I's" inoperative one by one, when they are observed and reported. They cease to operate the body.

228. A human being is a point of awareness. Look at events objectively, not subjectively.

Headlines page 33-34

1. See the event (second force).
2. See the inner mechanical reaction.
3. See I watching this consciously and stop the reaction.
This is being in the world not of it.
4. Continue to work for the aim (seeing self)

The conditioning always uses inner and outer second force in an effort to disorganize the form of an organized matter, such as a body, a group, an organization, a kingdom, et cetera.

The Awareness is the valuing function - The Real I.

The awareness function was put to sleep and replaced by conditioning because the infant's undeveloped awareness put value on gaining pleasure and escaping pain. An infant does not understand that pleasure and pain are only by-products. Thus, the fall of man results from a 'sleeping awareness'.

Conditioning has become the valuing system.

Second force was seen as something evil. His evaluation of second force was based on this idea, thus he missed the mark and committed the original sin. All subsequent evaluations are based on this original sin.

Teaching idea #328

As we act we will feel and we can act any way we want to. We are responsible for our behavior.

Teaching idea #336

There is always someone poking us (psychologically) to see if we will react.

Teaching idea #334

We are all initiates. Everyday living is a great show. We wake up when we see the joke. We either see it or die in the third degree. Once we see the joke, we won't take it serious again.

Teaching idea #292

When we have a quiet mind, we have inner development that grows naturally. A peaceful mind doesn't want to change anything.

Headlines page 34

When one has the state of consciousness referred to as conflict, one is being intimidated by thought.

Teaching idea #82

Suggestion appeals to us because we feel we need something. We are highly suggestible as long as we have an ideal. To get over being suggestible we see that we're already the recipient of every gift Life could bestow on us.

From video

Audience: (Talk about the "X", talk about the divine)

R.G.  When we talk about the conscious person, we're talking about manifestatons of the divine. We don't know what the divine is like. That's why we call it "X". We know only that it does the appropriate thing for the information receives. It apparently has no sentimentality or anything of the sort to try to please you know matter what, it just goes to what information it receives, okay? And if we give it the kind of information we would call spiritual, it does beautiful things. If we told it to rob banks, it would do a good job of it. If you told it to kill somebody, it would do a good job of that. I don't see "X" as having personal preferences. I don't think it has that at all. But it will do anything it has given the correct information about, or incorrect information, it goes on that to. So, I think that it behooves us to be careful of what we're giving this tremendous power. I think that's the part that's divine about it. That it behooves us to be conscious of where of what's going on so we don't give it false information for it to act upon because it will, okay? Is that enough said about it? That's about as far as I can go.

From Gibson notes

Teaching idea # 322. We are spiritual beings only when we are responsible.

Responsible - is what I am for my actions, feelings, responses etc.
Duty- is what I have for work I accept, agreements I make with others. I can take on or lay down duties.

To confuse another persons responsibility with "my" duty creates untold misery.
Many people are stimuli response organisms. They disclaim responsibility for their actions, feelings, and responses, and blame others. When two or more of these organisms are in a relationship, there is chaos. If one should discover freedom, all this changes for the seer. The stimuli response organism is responsible to grow beyond. No one else can do it for another. (my duty to discuss)

The only way to harm another person other than physical violence, is to believe, suggest, and/or act as though the other person is not responsible for all their states, other than outside physical violence.

Rights-that which I do not have
Privilege-That which I have and and can maintain, enhance, and gain more of by my own effort.
To confuse privileges with rights is the best known way to lose privileges.

Freedom-is to choose my response, if any to any stimuli

The more responsibility one accepts (for oneself) the more powerful one is.
If we agree to be responsible, we are able to experiment with energy.

Expectations

A. Expectation based on misconception leads to disappointment

1. That people will do what is right if they know what is right.
2. That other people know how they make me feel and will help me.
3. That if I complain, I will get my way.
4. That if I can get my own way, I will be non-disturbed.
5. That if I  please people, I will be non-disturbed.
6. That if I please people, they will do what I want.
7. That I can change myself if I make up my mind.
8. That I have rights that other people should respect.
9. That I would be happy if other people or something would be different.
10. That others would accept my conclusions and reasons.

B. Anticipation based on illusion leads to anxiety

1. Any unanswerable question leads to anxiety, any "what if"

C. Expectation and anticipation can be made conscious

1. When they are made conscious, justification based on illusions vanishes, bringing false expectation to an end.

D. Expectation based on fact leads to creative action

1. The fact is that the world is populated with infants in grown bodies with some technical education.
2. The fact that people can never do anything, which at the moment of doing, they do not feel is right or proper or justified.

E. Anticipation based on fact leads to the joy of experiencing

1. The fact is that each experience is perfect for that time and place, even though it may not suit our taste or be without discomfort.

The nature of struggle, conflict, and resistance

A Three questions of torment

1 Did I do "right" when I did so and so? (past)
2 Am I doing "right" by doing so and so?(present)
3 Will I be doing "right" if I do so and so? (future)

B Attempt to change self

1 Self, with a small "s", is our feeling about things.
2 We did not create ourselves, nor can we change ourselves.
3 We can change our responses--X will change the self.

C  The fallacy of being bound by "shoulds" and "oughts".

1 The "shoulds" and "oughts" can be valuable to show us what might be to our advantage.
2 The "shoulds" and "oughts" might then become "coulds".

D The meaning of being "out of time".

As a car gets out of "time", so do people get "out of time".

1 Their attention is directed to what was or will be, thus missing the experience of this moment, of what is.
2 They are in a constant state of worry, struggle, conflict, and resistance about wasting time.
3 There is a mental preoccupation with the past and the future, living half numb to the reality around them.

E The futility of trying to live in the past and the future.

1 There is nothing we can do about the past.
2 By looking at the past, we judge what was then, is now.
3 Once we think we "know"someone or something, we close our minds to the thrill of discovery.
4 We look to the future for our "happiness"and tomorrow never comes.

Initiation (What in the world is the world about?)

A. WHAT AM I?

I Am a privileged invited guest.

B. WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO ME?

I have totally forgotten what I am. I am totally conditioned to feel and act more like a prisoner than a guest.

C. WHERE AM I AND WHAT'S THE PURPOSE OF BEING HERE?

I am at a lovely estate called earth and the purpose of being here is to be experiencing freely and finding joy in it.

D. HOW HAVE I BEEN SEING IT?

As a literal place of torment and have felt that I was being attacked from all sides.

E. WHOSE ESTATE IS THIS?

It is the estate of the Host, who is God, Spirit, or Father. He is the one who invited me here.

F. WHO OWNS EVERYTHING HERE?

The host owns everything. He invites me to use some of the things when we arrived, such as a house, car, clothing, a body. We had nothing when we arrived and were given the privilege of using so much of what is here. We can take nothing when we leave.

G. WHAT'S GOING ON HERE?

A lot of interesting games are going on here. They are designed to enlighten the players -- business, marriage, traffic, self-improvement, education, trying to get rich, etc. The games all have rules and are very necessary. However, the players do not know that they are playing games, taking everything seriously. It is as though they were all playing the game of "Pin the Tail on the Donkey", all being blindfolded. Each is afraid that someone will get the prize before he does.

H. WHAT HAVE I BELIEVED IS IS GOING ON HERE?

I have believed there was a great struggle to compete with another, to survive, and to drive off all the enemies.

I. WHAT HAVE I BEEN DOING?

I have been behaving as though I had to straighten the whole thing out and have not accepted the reality of the Host. So I have been trying to rebuild the whole party and even trying to become the Host, since I did not recognize or suspect there was a Host. I have been seeing it as a chaotic royal
mess and wondering what I was going to do to clean it up.

J. WHAT CAN I DO?

I can understand myself and the estate or world in which I live and see the beauty, balance and  purpose of everything and thereby begin to really appreciate and then to love the Host.

K. WHO CAN I DO ANYTHING FOR?

The only one I can do anything for is the Host. Never again need I go out do things for the other guests, or even for myself. Fatigue is the price we pay for doing things for the wrong reason.

L. DO I FEEL REQUIRED TO DO FOR THE HOST OR DO I HAVE THE PRIVILEGE?

The Host says, "Would you mind?" He does not say "You have to" or you "ought to". It is then He will accept as a companion and may visit us from time to time, which is very worthwhile. Doing things for the Host is such a privilege because we do it freely.

Bits and pieces of school work

It can be of great interest to be aware of what the attention is focused on right now.
Mankind puts great value on the idea of continuity, forms many theories to convince mind that continuity is the greatest value, whereas reality demonstrates that ending of the old and beginning of the new is what it's all about.

From Bits and Pieces from school work

The urge of many not to be responsible for self makes the ruler possible. They give the ruler power. Power feeds on people to make them feel less responsible for self.

It may be a useful exercise to separate wants and needs.

Never try to justify your behavior. Just say you wanted to.

Where are Not-I's?

Many people we talk with seem to feel that the only Not-I's they are ever in contact with are inside. As noisy as the inside ones are, those we are in contact with daily on the outside are just as noisy---and there are many more, as we hear from them in almost everyone we meet.
The Not-I's in people we are in close contact with may try to influence one to feel guilty. Or to feel sorry for someone, to feel that the other is a victim. Some will attempt to make one feel resentful or angry. One very common effort of Not-I's is causing one to feel obligated to be responsible for the happiness of another. Not recognizing these motivators for what they are--Not-I's busy at what they are talented to do, make people feel miserable--is to fall asleep.
To recognize them for what they are eliminates much misery, much misunderstanding with persons close to one. When one sees that most defensive feelings and behavior are incited by Not-I's, not the real person one is associated with, such feelings and behavior comes to an end, and are replaced with compassion and real caring as well as internal calm.
Seeing all complaining, inner and outer, all defensiveness, inner and outer, all authoritative manner, all putting down of self or others, inner and outer, as the dirty work of Not-I's ends practically all friction in relationships. Then and only then can relationships be the fulfilling situations that everyone is looking for. Note--please don't assume that only self is taken over frequently by Not-I's. The rest of humanity has the same problem, that's why agape is needful.

Headlines page 5

Whenever "I" make anything important, "I" am anxious.

What will people think and/or say about me?

No one can think or say anything about "me" - they can only express what they feel when I'm the subject of their thoughts or speaking.

Only an infant, even if he has a grown up body, wants to look for an explanation for the causes of a challenge. The grown-up person responds freely to challenge. He does not waste his time and energy on looking for "why."

Would knowing the cause, or what is to blame, alter the challenge or make it go away?

The wise say there are no opposites such as "good" and "evil".

Do you know the outcome of a situation that exists now, or say, two days, two weeks, or two years from now?

Would it be necessary to know all the future ramifications of the present situation to determine if it would be desirable or undesirable to you?
